Protea Cottage is a family lifestyle business that originated out of purchasing 30 hectares of bare land in November 1990. The plan was to plant a forestry block but in our down time visits to Hugh Mathews Protea Nursery in French Farm resulted in many purchases of the beautiful Protea plants that soon became an addiction.

The Forestry block was duly planted and in tandem a small boutique protea cut flower farm was also established. The flowers are mainly a winter crop and we pick in all weathers. Three of us generally pick three days a week in the peak season and generally we have a break from December to March as the flowers slow down during these months but we are still busy with maintenance around the farm so in effect we are busy 12 months of the year.

Commencing the end of 2022 to March 2023 the forestry trees have been harvested off our block making quite a change to our landscape.   Quite nice to see the land again.
